High spirits at the BMW Motor Sport Party 2004 in Zell am See

'Europa-Sportregion' welcomed 650 guests / Montoya had a good time on the piste

Zell am See-Kaprun (pts035/06.12.2004/15:28) No holidaymakers like everybody else: the BMW racing drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Antonio Pizzonia stayed in the 'Europa-Sportregion Zell am See-Kaprun' over the weekend. The airfield in Zell was this year's venue of the traditional BMW Motor Sport Party. Of course, the event would not have been the same without the Formula 1 drivers' team, even though the absence of the third member of the trio, Ralf Schumacher, had to be excused for reasons of health by racing director Dr. Mario Theissen.

With a varied programme in the hangar of the Zell airfield, 650 guests celebrated the victory in the European Touring Car Championship and the double victories in the 24-hour-race at Nürburgring and in the Guia Race in Macau. They all let the ups and down of the season pass in review and the victorious private drivers were awarded the BMW Sports Cup, which in 2004 offered a total prize money of 241,000 euros.

There was a steady stream of prominent guests. Sir Frank Williams, Keke Rosberg with his son Nico, or Gerhard Berger, Hans-Joachim Stuck, BMW test driver Marc Gene, or Toni Sailer - they had all come to properly celebrate the end of a challenging and many-facetted season. TV presenter Barbara Schöneberger was their witty and charming guide for the evening.

The party spirit spread all by itself: at noon, Juan Pablo Montoya had already changed from his racing car cockpit onto a snowboard and proved to be a real buff on the region's fine powder snow. Dr. Mario Theissen, the head of the racing stable, thought that everybody was feeling well at home and praised the panorama, the weather, and the 130 kilometres of finest pistes in the 'Europa-Sportregion'. Up in the mountains at a dizzy height of 1,400 metres, Dirk Müller, Hans-Joachim Stuck and Jörg Müller slipped on their chefs' aprons and provided the attending journalists with some Austrian delicacies.

BMW Motor Sport Party is considered to be one of the most renowned events of the racing business. Accordingly, the team of the 'Europa-Sportregion' round the managing directors Hans Wallner and Frank Wiesner are very pleased to host this event. They would like to put Zell am See and Kaprun into a new, prominent position on the market. And they are obviously succeeding: for the very first time, the Motor Sport Party took place in the Salzburg region.
